The Stelrad team was delighted to hear that Daisy Turner from Barking and Dagenham College has been announced as the HIP Learner of the Year 2024, following an intense two-day final on the 11th and 12th of April at the JTL Birmingham Training Centre. Zak Rowan from Grimsby Institute earned the runner-up spot.
On hearing the announcement Daisy was pleased to share her excitement: “I still can’t believe it! The prizes and the overall experience have truly been overwhelming. I’d encourage anyone considering participating next year to absolutely go for it!”
The competition kicked off in January, with Level 2 and 3 plumbing students competing from across six regional locations in England and Wales. The judges had a challenging task but ultimately narrowed down the impressive entries to seven finalists at the regional heats, before crowning the winner and runner-up at last week’s grand final.
This year’s event was supported by prestigious industry leaders, including Stelrad Radiators, and the Chartered Institute of Plumbing and Heating Engineering (CIPHE).
Zoe Tanner, Managing Director at HIP, commented: “The final was nothing short of spectacular. Each competitor has demonstrated remarkable skill and should be proud of their achievements. We’re excited to see what next year brings as the talent this year has set a promising precedent for the future of plumbing.”
For over a decade, the HIP competition has been a pivotal platform for showcasing and celebrating the emerging talent within the UK plumbing sector, significantly boosting confidence among the nation’s future plumbing experts. Many former competitors have continued to achieve remarkable success, highlighting the competition’s role as a valuable launchpad for aspiring professionals.
