A new residential high-rise development in Wembley is home to 1,190 Stelrad Planar radiators. An overgrown area of railway embankment there is being revitalised into 256 much-needed homes for private rent in the north-west of London, within sight of the impressive arch over Wembley Stadium.
At Wembley Link there are a pair of modern ‘Art Deco’ 17 and 19 storey towers providing homes to rent via Buy to Rent specialist UNCLE, with panoramic views of Wembley’s townscape whilst providing daylight deep into each apartment. The project maximises green space to supplement the hard urban environment of the nearby Wembley High Road, establishing a strong vision for place, ecology and landscape continuity. Each block has a rooftop terrace featuring green spaces and places to sit and relax. The ground floor garden allows access to members and the wider community within its walls, whilst also featuring play areas and a community growing garden.
UNCLE was established in 2017 and was one of the early pioneers of the BTR (buy to rent) movement in London. The brand says its mission is to offer a ‘kind-hearted service in design-savvy apartments, combined with a straight-talking, no-nonsense approach for renters from all backgrounds who are tired of being treated like second-class citizens’. In the six years since its launch, UNCLE has opened five locations across London and Manchester.
The BTR brand is owned by Realstar UK, which owns more than £1 billion of property in Britain, including several student accommodation brands. Realstar has been a player in the UK property market for over 18 years and has since acquired or developed in excess of £2.5 billion in assets.
Nearly 1,200 Stelrad Planar radiators share heat around the homes at Wembley Link, which literally links Wembley Central with Wembley Stadium and the Wembley Park area. The two blocks have heating systems powered by a number of high efficiency, commercial boilers. The 256 homes for rent include a sizeable social housing provision, with the rest privately rented through UNCLE.
The developer of the site is Hub Group, with Henry Boot main contractor and DPC Contracts the M&E Contractor responsible for the installation of the heating systems. Alex Tretyak is the Mechanical Manager on the project: “The Stelrad Planar radiators were chosen for these homes for their appearance and their reliability as well as the ease of installation. Most of our team are installing Stelrad radiators on an almost daily basis and it made huge sense to work with products we know and like and that we knew would be available to us, as and when we needed them. Stelrad’s logistics record is second to none and we know we can call off the number of radiators we need for delivery on a daily basis if required. The decision to use these radiators has been a good one from ‘day 1’ on this development.”
