There’s a large Victorian baronial mansion not far from Dollar in Stirlingshire, that is benefitting from the addition of the latest energy efficient radiators from leading manufacturer Stelrad.
Solsgirth House is a desirable Grade B listed mansion set below the Ochil Hills, bordering Clackmannanshire, Fife and Perthshire. It was built about 1870 for William Connal, a member of an old Stirling family going back generations. He was born in Stown, Stirlingshire, the son of Patrick Connal, merchant and banker, who had the misfortune of having shares in the Stirling Bank when it crashed in 1826. He was ruined, but had better fortune when he was appointed the first local agent for the National Bank of Scotland.
Solsgirth House was also the former home of transport entrepreneur Walter Alexander, who owned the Bluebird Bus Company. More recently it became an exclusive venue for weddings, conferences and events and then a hotel, before reverting to being a family home.
The recent refurbishment of the property has seen the heating system transformed and the arrival of 77 Stelrad Classic Column radiators – perfect for the style of the property – along with a further 35 Stelrad flat fronted Planar radiators, to share the heat around the huge home, providing the levels of comfort heating needed in a home of this size and vintage. The contractor responsible for the installation of these more than 100 radiators, is John G MacIntosh from Perth.
“We’re pleased to be involved in a major project of this type,” says Stelrad’s Specification Manager for Scotland, Scott McDonald. “The Classic Column radiators are a perfect match for the style and design of the property whilst the Planar design radiators are attractive, understated premium radiators that blend in perfectly in the more recent areas of the building. It’s great to see an impressive building like this, being brought up to date to ensure the levels of comfort that will be needed to make this a successful family home again.”
“We needed good looking radiators to provide the heating in the home,” said Mechanical Project Manager Craig Lees from JGM. “Stelrad radiators were the obvious choice for this project with their quality and effectiveness, along with the ease of installation – all key factors in the decision.”
