Leading radiator manufacturer Stelrad, based in Mexborough, South Yorkshire has a good track record of providing radiators to colleges across the UK that run heating and plumbing qualifications courses – so that apprentices and trainees can practice fitting and demounting radiators as part of their training.
The most recent college to benefit from the company’s generosity is local college Rotherham College – just a few miles away from Stelrad’s base. Currently the college has more than 50 Diploma level learners and around 30 apprentices studying heating and plumbing across two campuses. Rotherham College is part of the RNN Group which includes Rotherham College, North Notts College and Dearne Valley College in South Yorkshire.
The donated radiators have been installed at the college as part of a display alongside a few working radiators that the students can practice installing and removing, on a working wet system.
“We’re grateful for these radiators which will help our students as part of their training here with us,” says lecturer Matt Brown. “It’s great for the students to be aware of the options out there and to be able to work with quality components during their training courses.”
Stelrad’s Chris Harvey says the company is happy to help where it can: “We see it as part of our role to help equip young people coming into the heating industry with the experience they need to work with our equipment, to prepare themselves for once they are qualified and out there working in homes in the area.”
