Electric Radiator FAQs
What is the fluid in the electric heaters?
The Alu Simple Fluid and Alyne contain Diathermic Oil which has the ability to retain heat with even distribution across all the surfaces of the electric radiator evenly and equally.
The Column, Fantasia Fluid, Cobalto, Iridio, Agata, Elegance E-Flow, Agata E-Flow, and Cobalto E-Flow contain an 80% water and 20% glycol mix. The glycol also contains an anti-corrosive substance to protect the electric radiator from internal corrosion which also protects the radiator from freezing if it is not used or left with no power during cold periods.
Does the fluid in the electric heater/ towel rail need refilling?
All radiators within the Electric Series come pre-filled. There is no need to top up or refill the product. In the unlikely scenario that the electric radiator leaks, it must be replaced. If this is within the warranty period, customers can contact Stelrad to replace the product.
What do you do if you find a trace of oil at the bottom of the electric radiator during the installation or the first time it’s turned on?
This may be left from the fabrication process. Simply clean and remove the oil with due care and check regularly. If the problem persists, contact your local dealer or qualified professional.
My ASV has activated, what does this mean?
The Column Electric, Fantasia Fluid, Cobalto, Iridio, Agata, Elegance E-Flow, Agata E-Flow, and Cobalto E-Flow are fitted with the exclusive ASV safety system to maintain the correct pressure inside the electric radiator, preserving its mechanical characteristics even when exposed to the high wear cycles typical of electric heaters.
In the unlikely event that the Automatic Safety Valve (ASV) (known in the UK as PRV – Pressure Relief Valve) is activated, this means that there has been an abnormality and must not be refilled. Customers should contact Customer Services and seek professional assistance for advice on how to either claim under warranty or how to dispose of the radiator correctly if out of warranty, as this cannot be refilled.
How do I dispose of an electric radiator or towel rail?
You will need to comply with current legislation for the disposal of oil and management of waste. At the end of its working life, the electric radiator must not be disposed of as urban waste. This is identified by the wheelie bin logo. Correct disposal of the product needs to be in accordance with EC Directive 2012/19/EC.
Why does my electric heater make clicking or ticking sounds when cold and first turned on?
This is due to the heater warming up and the metal expanding. This noise will slow down and eventually stop when it starts to get warmer.
What is anti-freeze?
All of the UK Electric Series have an anti-freeze mode. Anti-freeze is more commonly known as frost protection in the UK. In anti-freeze mode, the minimum temperature is set to 7°C and cannot be adjusted or altered. The electric radiator comes on automatically at ambient temperatures below 7°C.
Can electric radiators be installed using a plug?
Do not wire or fit a plug to any Electric Series radiators. Electric radiators must be electrically connected to a fused fixed spur, which is fitted with a 13amp fuse. The switch fused spur can be either metal or plastic with or without neon:
What else has to be considered if designing a system or retrofitting products from the Electric Series?
The designer must correctly design the system to accommodate the extra power. For retrofitting electric radiators, customers should consult with a qualified engineer or competent person.
Where does the lead come out of the electric radiator?
The power cord/lead comes out of the lower part of the electronic control, on the bottom right-hand side of the Electric Series range. This cannot be altered otherwise it invalidates the warranty.
Do electric radiators need their own circuit?
If you’re installing a single electric radiator in one room, it doesn’t require its own electrical circuit. However, if multiple electric-only radiators are being fitted, they should, ideally, be put on their own circuit to avoid overloading the mains. If the electric radiator is to be installed in a bathroom, the power line must be fitted with a 30 Ma RCD (high sensitivity residual current device).
Why does my electric radiator give off a smell when I first turn it on, is this normal?
When you turn on the electric radiator for the first time, it is normal for it to possibly give off a smell, which will disappear very quickly. Please ventilate the room if this occurs.
Which replacement batteries do I need for my remote control?
You will require 2 x ʺAAAʺ LR03 1.5 V Alkaline batteries.
ʺbattʺ is displayed on my remote controls, what does this mean?
This means the batteries are flat and should be replaced with 2 x ʺAAAʺ LR03 1.5 V Alkaline batteries.
My control display shows ʺALLʺ, what does this mean?
This means the temperature sensor is not working or has malfunctioned. Isolate the electric radiator and contact your merchant or supplier.
How do I clean my electric radiator?
Before cleaning, make sure the electric radiator is turned off, cold and disconnected from the mains supply. To clean, simply wipe with a soft damp cloth. Never use abrasives or corrosive cleaning products or solvents, as these could damage the electric radiator.
What if the controls become wet with water or other fluids?
Disconnect the mains supply power and allow the electric radiator to dry completely.
How far do I need to keep flammable or combustible materials away from the electric radiator?
Flammable or combustible materials should be kept at least 50cm away from the surface of the electric radiator.
The filter light has come on my fan electric radiator and the fan will not come on?
To restore operation, clean the filter thoroughly or remove possible obstructions from the air intake or outlet grilles. Turn off the electric radiator by placing the switch under the control panel at the bottom right in the O position. Wait for at least 5 minutes for the safety sensor to cool down then turn the electric radiator back on.
How often should I clean the filter on my fan?
It is recommended to clean the filter on the E-Flow radiators once a month.
Should I choose a fluid or dry electric radiator?
Your lifestyle and needs will determine which electric radiator will be better suited for you to choose. If you spend a lot of time away from home and need to heat the room quickly when arriving home, a fluid electric radiator will be the best option to do this.
Within the Electric Series, the Alu Simple Fluid, Alyne, Column Electric, Fantasia Fluid, Cobalto, Iridio, Agata, Elegance E-Flow, Agata E-Flow, and Cobalto E-Flow all include a fluid which distributes heat quickly and evenly across the electric radiator, which in turn emits the heat into your desired room through radiation.
The Alu Simple Dry and Cloud use the stone element and take advantage of the inertia heat which can save money in this scenario. Using dry inertia technology, the electric radiator heats the air in your rooms via a process of convection with a soft and continuous heat. This means less energy consumption and quicker heat-up times as the internal stone gently adapts to the desired temperature. Corrosion-resistant with no fluids or chemicals and with no chance of leaks, this has a high energy efficiency rating due to the stone’s natural ability to absorb, hold and radiate heat faster and for longer.
Do the products with remote controls work on multiple electric radiators? Does one remote work for the same products, if you have multiple electric radiators around the house?
As the distance the remote communicates with the heater is limited to 5m for all except the Column Electric, which is 2m, then each remote should work only with the electric radiator it came with.
Will the warranty be reduced if an electric radiator is installed in a bathroom or high-humidity area?
Yes, when installed in toilets or any areas of high humidity (including bathrooms, kitchens and shower rooms etc.), the electric radiators are limited to a twelve-month parts and labour warranty.
What is the surface temperature the electric radiators reach?
Each electric radiator will reach 43℃ but when the “Child Safety” function is activated, the surface of the electric radiator is cooler than in normal operation in the currently active mode (“Comfort”, “Night/Eco”…) to avoid the risk of burns caused by brief accidental contact.
Are spare hardware packs available?
Yes, spare hardware packs will be available to purchase from Customer Services.
Are spare remote controls available?
Yes, you will be able to get spare remote controls, available to purchase from Customer Services.
Do replacement remotes need re-pairing?
Yes, please refer to the instructions or contact Customer Services to pair a remote.
Are the Electric Series products Installation Class 2 compliant?
A Class II or double-insulated electrical radiator uses reinforced protective insulation in addition to basic insulation. Hence, it has been designed in such a way that it does not require a safety connection to electrical earth (ground).
Do the Electric Series radiators need maintenance?
No, you will not need to maintain or service these products once installed. However, should any technical problems arise, contact a qualified professional or your local dealer. All operations on the electric radiator must be carried out by a qualified professional who before performing maintenance must make sure the electric radiator is turned off, cold, and disconnected from the household mains.
What type of paint finish do electric radiators have?
- White 9016 Traffic White – (Alu Simple / Alu Simple Dry / Alyne / Fantasia Dry) These can be described as having a matt gloss smooth finish.
- Anthracite grey 9004 – (Cloud) These can be described as having a matt gloss smooth finish.
