The latest DIY:SOS The Big Build TV programme was on BBC 1 on 18th December and saw the well known team lead by Nick Knowles transforming a derelict bungalow in Harlow in Essex into a new home and a wellbeing hub for local people with mental health issues.
Stelrad was delighted to be asked to donate some of its award winning radiators to the latest ‘DIY SOS – the big build’ TV programme project. The programme takes on big builds in a limited timeframe and relies heavily on the goodwill of the local community of tradespeople and suppliers to help transform the lives of truly deserving projects and individuals. Stelrad has a great track record of supporting charitable projects and has donated radiators to several of the worthy DIY:SOS projects over the years.
On this occasion, Stelrad provided eight of its sector leading Compact radiators to this latest project and they featured prominently in the coverage of the installation and then the unveiling of the finished project. The radiators featured alongside a number of actors from East Enders who contributed to the work carried out on the project and were there to sing Christmas carols in the new building at the great reveal.
“It was great to see our radiators installed throughout the project,” says Head of Marketing at Stelrad Chris Harvey. “Mental health issues are far more widely recognised these days and this particular project is a highly topical one for most places across the country, with mental health issues for all age groups coming to the fore during the Covid pandemic and the NHS struggling to keep pace with the demands on its mental health facilities. We’re grateful for the opportunity to provide even a small amount of help towards this project.”
Nick Knowles thanked all the companies that contributed towards the project – the tradespeople who undertook the work and the suppliers like Stelrad who provided products to make the project possible. Tears flowed at the big reveal as the leaders of the charity that will use the building saw the transformation of the previously derelict bungalow that will now provide a meeting place for a range of groups run by the charity and a place to undertake outdoor activities from gardening, cooking and barbecues to quiet places for people who need space and time to cope with the situations they are in.
Like all of these Big Build programmes the outcome was amazing and saw more than 200 local tradespeople turn up every day for six days to transform the old bungalow into a stunning new open plan building offering all the facilities the charity needs. And courtesy of Stelrad’s radiators – the users of this amazing facility will be warm and cosy when its cold outside.
