Stelrad radiators selected for primary school new build development

Stelrad radiators have been selected for a new build project at a Primary School in East Leake near Loughborough in Nottinghamshire.  The new build project was for the new Millside Academy which comprises of classrooms, staff offices, a dining hall, a studio and the main kitchens for the school. Predominantly, the new building is used for teaching facilities for young infant school students.

Millside moved into a new building within a new development in East Leake in September 2023, which provides a modern, purpose built, inclusive learning environment, accessible for all the local community. The building is creating a high performing school, based on developing children’s natural curiosity and an exciting curriculum. At Millside, all the children learn in an environment that helps them to thrive and shine.

The radiators chosen for the project include 29 of Stelrad’s ‘safe to touch’ low surface temperature radiators – ideal for public buildings where young or vulnerable people are likely to be using the building – radiators with covers that ensure the surface temperature of the radiators never exceeds 43 degrees centigrade in temperature. These are ideal for schools and in particular infants and junior schools where the children using the classrooms are young and susceptible and where additional safety features ensure that the children cannot suffer from dry burns from radiators that heat up to well above the maximum temperature of LST radiators.

The project also saw 12 Elite and 4 Planar design radiators utilised in staff offices and the kitchen – away from where the children will be circulating.

“We’re delighted to have been able to provide the radiators for this new school building,” says Stelrad’s head of marketing Chris Harvey. “Our LST range of radiators has been extensively selected for schools and other educational environments in recent years and their selection highlights the value of the LST concept, and the fact that the temperature of any accessible part of the radiators remains below 43 degrees centigrade at all times – including pipework to and from each radiator. It’s all part of offering a safe environment for young children in this project.”

The project main contractor was Morgan Sindall and heating contractors were William Bailey Building Services Engineers. The radiators were supplied via Smith Brothers in Leicester.
