This year Stelrad has supported the leading competition for apprentices in the heating and plumbing sector, organised by the publishers of HIP magazine – the magazine targeted at all young apprentices across England and Wales. The six regional winners came together for a two-day final held at the training centre for Worcester Bosch, the boiler manufacturer based in Worcester.
The regional winners who made it to the final were Jack Payne from Buckinghamshire College Group’s Wycombe campus, Charlie Oliver from Shrewsbury College, Andrew Poland from St Helens College, Elliott Julian from Cornwall College, Kai Alexander-Weir from Darlington College and the eventual winner – Ruben Duggan from Coleg Y Cymoedd’s Ystrad Mynach Campus. The challenging practical skills competition took place over 12 hours on two consecutive days last month.
Stelrad was one of a number of leading industry names that participated in the event and Stelrad’s Marketing Communications Manager, Sarah Baker says supporting apprentices and helping attract new young talent to the heating sector is a vital part of the company’s role: “Awards and initiatives like those run by HIP are so important to the heating industry, to reward young talent but also to encourage young people to learn from the existing skilled workforce and be our heating engineer of the future.
