Seventeen years old Jay Marshall from Mexborough has been named Level 2 Apprentice of the Year by the RNN Group at Rotherham College. Jay is six months into an eighteen-month programme at the UK’s leading radiator manufacturer. He was one of 300 apprentices eligible for the award working across a myriad of employers and disciplines in the South Yorkshire area.
He received his award at the University Centre Rotherham on 3rd February from Tracey Mace-Ackroyd, Deputy CEO and Principal at the RNN Group.
“I’m really pleased and a bit shocked to have been chosen from so many other apprentices for this award,” says Jay. “Working at Stelrad is my first job having left Mexborough Laurel Academy a short while ago and I’m loving my work. I’d love to be able to move on to do a Level 3 NVQ after I complete this Level 2 course if the option is there for me to gain additional qualifications.”
Jason Davies, Trainer – Manufacturing Operations is Jay’s training officer at the company: “Jay may be surprised to have won this award but I’m not,” he says. “We have five apprentices on the level 2 programme and whilst they are all doing very well, Jay’s worked exceptionally hard over the past six months. He is inquisitive, which is essential when learning our processes. He works hard with our team in the manufacturing unit and puts the time into his college work as well – he’s a joy to have in the business.”
