Why Switch to LST Radiators

Nowadays, many people are now focused on how new and innovative heating solutions can safely heat surrounding spaces. In the vast majority of newer public buildings, you will see low surface temperature or LST radiators.  With so many buildings now using LST radiators, it’s important to understand the benefits associated with this newer heating solution.

Why You Should Consider LST Radiators

In recent years, there has been a sharp decline in the number of young and elderly people accidentally scalding themselves on radiators and heating systems. These stories are now pretty rare and this is mainly thanks to the introduction of LST radiators. In addition, the majority of public buildings and commercial premises will now use low surface temperature radiators. LST radiators can be used as a way to keep people safe as they won’t be exposed to hot metal surfaces that can cause burns and scalds.

If you visit a hospital, nursing home, doctor’s surgery, school and many newer public buildings, they will all use LST radiators. This new heating system is now almost always used because it successfully meets the requirements of the NHS’s guidance concerning hot water and surface temperatures. Also, using a heating system with LST radiators means you don’t have to worry about your radiators exceeding a temperature of 43°C. When radiators exceed this temperature, there is a much higher chance of burning. In some instances, temperatures exceeding 43°C can even result in fatalities if you are unable to prevent injury.

Making the Switch to a Low Surface Temperature Radiator System

If you choose to use a standard heating system, your radiators will work to produce heat through radiation. This means that during the convection process the surface of your radiators can reach temperatures exceeding 43°C. If you accidentally touch or bump a radiator at these higher temperatures, you can suffer injury in seconds.

With traditional radiator systems, their high-water volume and high mass mean your system will be slow to respond to any temperature changes. First of all, with an LST radiator system, your radiators will only use convection to heat surrounding areas. This newer heating system works very differently to old traditional radiators. With this system, your radiators will use air intake from the bottom and a special air outlet on the top of the radiator to aid convection. Also, this type of heating is more powerful in newer systems. New LST radiators only use 10% of the mass of traditional radiators. This is great news for your energy bills! Your radiator can heat and cool surrounding spaces more accurately and respond to temperature changes quickly and efficiently.

Design Benefits of a LST Radiator System

A fantastic benefit of using low surface temperature radiators is the design flexibility it offers. If you choose to use this newer heating system you will be enjoy a range of different heating options.  This is because they are able to maintain a constant low surface temperature.  Also, you will be able to place your radiators in different areas of the home because you won’t have to worry about someone accidentally burning or scalding themselves.
